ABOUT

Mário Pardo: The First Portuguese Base Jumper

Born in Lisbon on 21 October 1960, he has always been attracted to Air, to Space. As a kid he would spend nights looking at the skies and imagining travels and adventures...

At 20 years old he served his military service in the paratroopers, where he was ranked as the best trainee between his recruits and the best at technical-tactical, therefore being prized by CEMFA as Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Air Force.
Sometime later, he launched himself into free fall. He got the National Champion title three times and represents Portugal in several world competitions.

He graduated as a SL (Static Line) instructor, AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) instructor and Tandem Master/Pilot. He founded his own skydiving school, “Queda Livre” – www.quedalivre.pt
which has a regular, intense and increasing activity to date, where he shares his experience and passion for the sport with his students.

Not yet satisfied and “giving wings” to his pioneer facet, he dares to go even further and becomes the 1st Portuguese Base Jumper (jumping from static objects – Building, Antenna, Span, Earth).

It was in 2000 that he packed up and went to meet Tracy Lee Walker, an American based in Germany that became his BASE instructor and led him to his first jump at Mount Brento in the Italian Alps. Thanks for showing me the way bro, you’re the best.

He completed the Base cycle by jumping from Rádio Renascença’s antenna in Muge (265m tall, the highest in Europe) and being assigned the codename: BASE742.

In 2004, Mário Pardo takes yet another important step in his career and founds his event planning company, specifically dedicated to activities in the skydiving area, Get High – www.gethigh.pt

Since then, with Get High’s support in his career, he is dedicated to perform special projects, such as jumping from Ponte 25 de Abril, from the top of a moving truck, jumping from a bike at Cabo Girão in Madeira, Cabo Girão, the biggest cape in Europe at 580m high, among others.

In addition to his athletic career he also does professional Counseling/Psychotherapy (specializing in addictive behaviors), being very committed to the profession seeing helping others gives him great pleasure. He is passionate about life and everything he does.

And, for Mário, “the Sky is not the Limit, it’s the Starting Point”.
